Tahoe Colors

What a glorious way to start May! On a beautiful sunny day in Tahoe I captured this photo which represents the amazing colors of Tahoe. 

From the clear green water and mostly sandy lake bed, up through the changing shade of lake blues, to the sparkling white snow covered mountains. And finally, the tinted mountain skyline and the blue sky and occasional cloud. 

A pallet of layered colors, what a peaceful and beautiful scene. 

Snowy Tree Line

Captured this photo just of HW89 on the road to Tahoe City. I like the snow-covered trees and the blocks of snow covering the boulders in the Truckee River. It’s almost mid-April and we are still having snow storms!

Donner Lake

Donner Lake visible from HW80. This is a very popular view as seen from Donner Pass Road which you can take from the town of Truckee. It twists and turns up and over Donner Summit Bridge to Sugar Bowl Ski Resort and eventually back down to HW80. 

This view is taken from the scenic vantage point beside the Donner Summit Bridge. I like the overall framing of the photo as well as the colors and distinct blue lake.

What a difference a couple of days can make. Last night Tahoe was hit by a snow storm and we all woke this morning to a wintery blizzard scene. Visibility is very poor around the lake and if you do venture out the wind can blow the snow around making it impossible to see anything.

This photo of Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge, on the West Shore, gives you an idea of the weather conditions.

The forecast is for heavy snow through tomorrow and continued snow showers through the weekend. It’s not expected to return to sunny climates again until early next week. However, that’s great news for the ski resorts!

This bridge supports the traffic on HW89 as it ambles around scenic Emerald Bay.

I like the colors of the stone, the reflection, as well as shadows, laying on top of the calm and cold mountain water and the clear blue skies above. A very tranquil and peaceful photo.

And, the chunk of snow to the left is the only clue that the local ski resorts, such as Homewood Mountain and Alpine Meadows, are still entertaining skiers and snowboarders. Without that snow this photo could have been taken during the summer season.

In contrast to the tranquil Emerald Bay bridge photo, the view looking in the opposite direction away from the bridge. What was calm mountain water now rushing over the edge of the rocks as it plummets down eventually to the Emerald Bay waters edge and Vikingsholm.

Emerald Bay one of the most famous and recognizable places on Lake Tahoe at any time of the year.

First day of Spring, March 21st, 2010.

This view is looking to the East where you can still see some snow on the mountains in Nevada. Of course, we have more snow over here on the California side but it is clear that Spring is on its way as the snow is melting.

Eagle Grill Pier, Incline Village

Lone Eagle Grille, a well-known and popular place, is an awesome location to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon by the Lake and with views like this you can see why.  

I like how the clouds seem to be congregating above the mountains, circling the lake itself.

And for those who might feel the cold, the warm pit-fires allow you to step outside from the bar area, with drink in hand of course.

This photo is taken on HW89 somewhere between the River Ranch, a popular place during the Summer, and Tahoe City.

I like the tranquility and peacefulness of this photo with the undisturbed snow on the jagged river banks plus the reflection of the tress in the calm, almost stationary, river.

Its been a little while since my last post, sometimes ‘real’ marketing work get’s in the way!

On my way to get a morning brew from my favorite coffee shop Tahoe House, the sun was just breaking through the dark and menacing morning cloud.

You can clearly see the Heavenly Ski Resort slopes, also enlightened by the morning sun, but that spot light of sun breaking through was breath-taking to see.

I like how the photo captures the layer of light breaking up the dark skyline and the dark reflection on the water. But I especially like the spotlight of color that breaks through the morning cloud and spans across the lake.

Tahoe is such an awesome place to live!
