What a difference a couple of days can make.

Only Tuesday I posted a typical autumn scene with the yellow and orange colors and fallen leaves on the Commons Beach sidewalk in Tahoe City, not a stone’s throw from where this photo was taken first thing this morning.

As regards this photo, I like the overall mood and how the dark tree bark is in total contrast with the freshly snow-covered, white branches. And, in the distance you can see a storm over South Tahoe City.

Gradually the weather is getting colder and although this particular snow fall will not stay too long, we are expecting the frequency and amount of snow to increase as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday and in to early December.

Early morning in Tahoe City, the path beside Commons Beach makes a most relaxing and pleasant walk to clear the mind and prepare for the day, or get yourself ready for a little workout at the A Sante gym!

I continue to enjoy the colors that we have in Tahoe at this time of year. However, I have been traveling recently and missed some of the gradual changes but there is still enough around to get pleasure from as this photo confirms.

Marlette Flume Trail

As I have said many times Autumn is probably my favorite season in Tahoe. The change of colors, with the golden yellow and oranges ‘popping’ against the traditional green creates some awesome scenery.

This photo was taken on the Marlette Flume Trail, approaching from the Tunnel Creek Road end in Incline Village, this trail is also very popular for mountain bikers, so be warned! However, this time of year is just such an incredible time to do a hike, especially to see the colors of the Aspen.

I just love how this photo came out with the sunlight shining through the arch covered ceiling created by the Aspen and the fallen leaves randomly covering the path. Autumn is truly a great time for getting out and doing a hike or two before the snow arrives.

Chimney Beach Trail

The morning after our first snow.

A pleasant hike of about 4-miles along Chimney Beach Trail, on the East shore, takes you also around Secret Harbor and a number of smaller idylic alcove beaches.

This view is looking across the lake to the West shore where the fresh snow is covering the mountains.

Echo Lake

Echo Lake just off HW50, a magical place, when you see it for the first time you wonder if someone is trying to keep the location a Tahoe secret.

However, when you walk the Tahoe Rim Trail along side Echo Lake you will be surprised by how many houses there are with boat launches and piers, very idyllic for the property owners.

Upper Echo Lake

Hiking about 3-miles along the Tahoe Rim Trail, from the base of Echo Lake, you will enjoy scenery like this. The view captured is looking back across Upper Echo Lake to Echo Lake in the distance.

Unfortunately, you may notice that my camera lens needs cleaning. I hesitated in posting these photos but I think you can still appreciate the beauty of the location and scenery even with a little dust on the camera lens, my apologies!

Mt. Tallac View

A hike of approximately 9-miles and 5-hours in duration, depending on how fast you hike uphill, from the Fallen Leaf Lake area gets you to the top of Mt. Tallac and back. The panoramic views from this vantage point, of 9,375 feet, are spectacular and it’s well worth the effort if you have never been to the top.

This view is looking north and you can clearly see Cascade Lake and Emerald Bay as well as it gives you an idea of the scale of Lake Tahoe and its 22-miles by 12-miles expanse. I also like how the clouds are casting their shadows.

Another photo, but this time about an hour from the top of Mt. Tallac. It’s a steady climb from here to the top but with scenery like this, who cares!

Mt. Tallac Hike

What I like about this photo is the contrast of colors. The rich greens and yellows of the plants in the foreground and the stark grey mountains in the background, with a couple of remaining patches of snow.

I am not exactly sure which mountain that is in the photo, I should really know so I apologize, but it sure does remind me of Half Dome in Yosemite. Perhaps someone who does know can add a comment and share with all of us?

This will be the last photo of the Summer, we officially go in to Autumn on Wednesday, September 23rd. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons and I hope to capture several photos of the changing colors and first snow fall!

Mountain Lake

On Sunday, I spent most of the day on a hike of about 10-miles, starting at Eagle Falls Trail near Emerald Bay, in to Desolation Wilderness. Just under half of that distance was completing the loop around the Velma Lakes, which provides some amazing and contrasting scenery. I would highly recommend the hike.

I came across this lake but searching the map I could not find a name for it although it seems to be fed by nearby Upper Velma Lake.

I like the overall framing and colors of this photo and it reminds me of the tranquility and peacefulness experienced while visiting this spot. I captured a few more photos from the hike which are posted on Tahoe Photo Gallery, see link below.
