Eagle Falls Trail
Another weekend spent hiking, well most of Saturday anyway. This time it was Eagle Falls Trail which takes you past Eagle Lake.
It’s about a 5-mile round trek to the intersection where the Eagle Falls Trail meets the Bayview Trail. At this intersetcion you can get some great views across the National Wilderness Basin.
This photo was taken on the trek back down and I felt it just made an interesting picture with Lake Tahoe in the distance nestled between the mountains.

Cascade Lake and Falls
I decided to take a hike to Cascade Falls, which is adjacent to Emerald Bay, I could not have picked a better day. This time of year the waterfall, which is approximately 149ft high, is in full swing and even visible from the East Shore, if you know where to look. It’s actually an easy hike, about 1.5 miles and so it can be popular at this time of year, especially over Memorial Day Weekend

Who Is This
I took some time to hike above Cascade Falls as well as going off the beaten track and across the many flowing streams to explore the area.
At one point I came across wildlife, just basking in the sun and enjoying the view. He didn’t seem to be too bothered with me sharing the moment with him, so we sat awhile and just enjoyed the view of Cascade Lake from our vantage point.
So here is the question, what animal is this?
There were so many awesome views of Cascade Lake and Cascade Falls, and so many photos to capture. I have posted more on Tahoe Photos Gallery but decided that this one was worth posting here.

- Above Cascade Falls
It’s just above Cascade Falls and is one of the streams that combines with a few others to create the impressive and roaring Cascade Falls. I highly recommend a hike to Cascade Falls when you’re in the area.

New Leaves
This spot is near Camp Richardson and Kiva Beach just off HW89.
I have attempted to get a photo from this location before, during late autumn when the silver tree trunks are completely bare, and then in winter when the area is covered in snow. However, I have never felt I have captured the beauty of this spot successfully, even though it always grabs my attention whenever I drive by.
Today I tried again and this time I got something I really liked. There is something about the photo, the green leaves against the silver tree trunks, the contrast of the dark tree to the left – almost looking surreal - and the yellow plants in the foreground.
Perhaps it’s just a good representation of spring, the warm weather and the new season upon us!

Cave Rock View
It’s difficult to capture the full beauty of the view from the top of
Cave Rock. It’s such an awesome place to see the Lake, standing on a small rocky perch, close to the edge 75-feet above the cars that speed through the tunnel below.
Looking almost directly down from the highest vantage point, the sparkling reflection of the afternoon Sun in the water, truly made an awesome sight.
The boat, speeding towards South Lake Tahoe, begins a different image, as the distinct and graduating colors change and on the horizon, the West Shore mountains.
One photo with two different images.

Something a little different from the normal scenic picture.
I believe this is an Osprey (also know as a Sea Hawk) nesting with it’s young, you could hear the chirps of the young in the nest that’s how I know it was there. However, if you believe this is not an Osprey please let me know as I am far from being a bird expert.
To get this shot, I used a zoom lens and considering I had no tripod to steady the weight of the camera I think it came out very well, no noticeable shake! Overall I like the structure of the photo with the Osprey spreading it’s wings on it’s nest and the contours and shape of the tree.
It was a special moment to capture this image.

Grass Lake Meadow
This photo was taken on May 10th, 2009.
The weather today was awesome, blue skys and warm sunshine, what a glorious day for a pleasant drive and to explore places like Grass Lake Meadow on HW89 just south of Meyers.
It was a peaceful location, the sound of the stream bustling through the meadow, the changing spring colors, plus a little reminder of the winter with snow on Thompson Peak in the background.
I’ve been distracted a little lately and not been out and about, but with places like Grass Lake Meadow and Spring in the air, I’ll be making more effort!
