Alpine Meadows
This photo was taken on November, 27th 2008 from Alpine Meadows.
Last night there was some snow at the higher elevations, this morning the trees up there still have a covering of snow and the sky remains dark and overcast.

Squaw Creek
A similar cloudy and overcast scene existed at Squaw Valley. Taken from the Resort at Squaw Creek golf course you can see Squaw Valley base camp to the right settling under the cable car ride to the hidden mountain top.
Both scenes are a contrast from down by the Lake where the warm sun is shining through, just shows you what a couple of thousand feet in elevation can do.

Tree Reflection
This photo was taken on November, 26th 2008.
There are a number of places on HW89 as you drive from Tahoe City to/from Truckee, where you can stop and amble along the banks of the Truckee River. I have often driven this route and always thought that one day I would come and take some photos, well today was that day!
Right now the colors around here are awesome, although we are at the tail end of the autumn, there are still some vivid bright gold, red and orange to be seen. I did get some photos that captured the colors and the river — these are posted in the Tahoe Photos Gallery, just follow the ‘Tahoe Photos Gallery’ link to see them — but I thought this photo of the reflection of the trees in the river warranted posting by itself!
I just like the way it looks and feels ‘upside down’, how well the trees are framed, how they are clearly mirrored in the cold Truckee River, plus how you can see the rocks on the bottom of the river bed.

Cloud Formation
This photo was taken on November, 23rd 2008 from Agate Bay.
Driving along the north shore mid-morning, I was captivated by the cloud formation, especially the clouds that looked like they were all being drawn to one point on the south shore.

Chambers Landing
This photo was taken on November, 16th 2008 from Chambers Landing.
Chambers Landing is a well known location on the lake and a frequent place to visit in the summer either on foot, car or boat. The watering hole inside the cabin is an excellent spot for a break from those water activities.
It was a perfect morning today, the sun was warm, not a cloud in sight, the beach was empty, the lake was calm, not a sound to be heard.

Cave Rock Sunset
This photo was taken on November, 15th 2008 from Cave Rock.
It was a beautiful evening for sitting under Cave Rock watching the sunset, a very peaceful moment for reflecting on the past week. The colors of the sky were initially blue and pale yellow, followed by flaming-red as the sun set lower. Gradually as the sun disappeared, the West shore mountains looked more and more like dark shadows.
There were a few other sunset watchers, as well as one or two fishermen standing on the rocks beside the lake. A sudden ‘yelp’ signified the ‘catch of the day’, and then peace returned, apart from the rhythmic water brushing the shore.
Once the sun had set the temperature rapidly changed, and then darkness fell, another day in Lake Tahoe completed.

Mount Rose, Morning Cloud
This photo was taken on November 8th, 2008, from the Mount Rose highway (HW431) scenic overlook.
Although you can’t tell from the photo, the clouds were passing through the mountains at some considerable speed.
There was a lot of ‘prescriptive burning’ in the area and this explains the ‘misty’ layer to the photo.

Mt. Tallac
These photos were taken on November 7th, 2008 near Kiva Beach, South Lake Tahoe.
It was a beautiful morning, a crisp frost creating a pure white blanket across the meadow, the sunrise progressively covering Mt. Tallac with a golden top.

Sunrise Shadows
A little later the sunrise was well underway and the shadows of the tress were creeping across the meadow. The frost was starting to dissipate as the warm Sun got to work on a new day.
Nobody else around, peaceful silence, broken only by the call of a few early morning crows!

Early November
This photo was taken on November 5th, 2008 from McKinney Bay.
It was taken at approximately 6:30am as the sun was rising on a new day. The mist rising from the Lake was spectacular, and the blanket of unspoiled snow covering the beach just adds to the whole image.
You can see that we have had some reasonable snow fall for early November. In fact chain control has been enforced for the drive over Donner Pass, so be prepared if your coming this way soon.
I’m glad to be back from my travels and able to starting posting again.
