Pine Lodge

This photo was taken on July 30th, 2008, at Sugar Pine Point.

Pine Lodge, or sometimes referred too as the Hellman-Ehrman Mansion, was completed in 1903 by San Francisco businessman I. W. Hellman. It’s a beautiful summer house and has a lawn that runs down a short incline to the lake through a number of pine trees.

The location is much visited as there is a nice, but small, beach area, picnic tables and a boating pier that is a launching pad in to the lake for children. It’s a wonderful place to relax on a sunny day and the summer house is open daily during the season.

Regan Beach

This photo was taken on Monday, July 28th, 2008, from Regan Beach, South Lake Tahoe.

Regan Beach is really more of a lakeside park than a beach. While there is a large area of waterfront, with a playground, volleyball court, wedding ceremony area, and a snack bar. it is not your typical Lake Tahoe beach. However, you can get some excellent views of the lake from here.

The picture is looking West towards Emerald Bay.

Mount Rose Highway

This photo was taken on Thursday, July 24th, 2008, from Mount Rose Highway.

The Mount Rose Highway (SR431) rises in dramatic fashion from the foothills of the Truckee Meadows, topping the Carson Range of the Sierra Nevada Mountains at 8,911 ft.

Starting at the North of Lake Tahoe, on the edge of Incline Village, you can get some spectacular views of the Lake by taking this route, which winds down the other side of the Sierra to Reno.

From where this photo was taken, you are looking from North to South and you can start to get a perspective of the 22miles in length, and 12 miles width, the Lake spans.

This photo was taken on Monday, July 21st, 2008, it shows the north facing beach of Sand Harbor (in the distance).

Sand Harbor is on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, situated about 6 miles south of Incline Village, it is probably one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the Lake and frequently visited.

Vikingsholm

This photo was taken on July 12, 2008, looking down in to Emerald Bay, it provides a different perspective from the last photo of Emerald Bay.

Vikingsholm is situated at the base of Emerald Bay. It’s a frequently visited location by the boating population. However, you can walk down to the Vikingsholm and the beach area from the road if you so desire.

Emerald Bay

This photo was taken on July 6th, 2008, at Emerald Bay.

July 4th weekend has been very busy here in Tahoe. The whole Lake, on and off, has been inundated by visitors spending the long weekend in Tahoe … and why not!

Fortunately, the recent smoke was favorable to all, and it had virtually disappeared for the duration of the holiday. As a result, it was a perfect July 4th evening for watching the fireworks, while sitting at the West Shore Café, in Homewood, with a glass of wine with some good friends!

However, as this photo shows, the smoke has returned, albeit not as bad, as the result of some new fires in Northern California. But I don’t think it has spoiled anyone’s last few hours of weekend fun!

A little fact about Emerald Bay, in 1969 it was designated a National Natural Landmark for its brilliant panorama of mountain-building processes and glacier carved granite.

It is probably one of the most recognizable and most visited places in Lake Tahoe, well worth the trip.
